Snägäri Pinball
Player Manual

90s-style 2D pinball about Finnish late-night snack kiosks. Currently for Windows + keyboard. Linux support planned.

Getting started

Snägäri Pinball is a classic 2D pinball game with a single, deeply built table themed around Finnish late-night snack kiosks (“snägäri”). Learn it quickly, then spend far too long chasing high scores.

Platform & input

  • Supported: Windows + keyboard.
  • Gamepads may work via key mapping, but are not officially supported yet.
  • Native Linux builds are planned for the future.

Basic loop

  • Launch the ball with the Space (or your bound key).
  • Use Left Shift and Right Shift for the flippers (default bindings).
  • Hit ramps, targets and lanes to start events and multiballs.
  • Try not to let the ball slip between the flippers. You will, eventually.
Health & flashing lights
The game can display bright, flashing effects and screen shake, especially in Over-The-Top and Analog Horror modes. If you are sensitive to flashing lights or fast motion, disable these in Settings > Game and Settings > Other and see the separate health information page linked from the store / website.

Controls

Snägäri Pinball uses three core gameplay inputs. You can rebind them to any keys recognised by Windows.

Action Default Description
Left flipper Left Shift Raises the left flipper.
Right flipper Right Shift Raises the right flipper.
Launch / bump Space Launches the ball at the start of a turn and nudges the table during play.
Pause / menu Esc Pauses the game and opens the in-game menu.

Rebinding controls

Open Settings & Stuff > Controls to rebind keys.

  • Click the button underneath the control you want to change.
  • Press the new key once.
  • The label updates to show the new binding.

Options & settings

The Settings & Stuff menu is split into several tabs. Most options apply instantly; some require restarting an active game to take full effect.

Game settings

Core behaviour, content level and overall game speed.

  • Use uncensored adult mode
Enables the full adult humour set: stronger jokes, references to alcohol and smoking, and certain visual gags. When this is off, adult-only modes and jokes are hidden and any sexual or genital references are removed. Kids Mode applies an even stricter filter on top of this.
  • Use licensed music while gaming
Toggles licensed music tracks. Streaming / recording
If you plan to stream or record the game, disable licensed music to minimise the risk of copyright strikes or muted VODs. The game will use stream-safe tracks instead.
  • Allow flashing effects on text and field
Adds extra flashes and strobing around the text and playfield. Does not change ball physics. Disable if you are sensitive to flashing lights.
  • Game speed
Sets overall speed of the ball and animations:
    • Slow – relaxed timing; online leaderboards are disabled.
    • Normal – default speed. Uses its own Normal league leaderboards.
    • Faster (Turbo League) – quicker pace with separate Turbo leaderboards.
    • Fastest (Ludicrous League) – maximum chaos with its own Ludicrous leaderboards.
Each league has its own online rankings, so scores are only compared within the same speed.

Audio settings

Fine-tune volume for different parts of the mix.

  • Master – overall volume for the game.
  • Music – background tracks (both licensed and in-house).
  • Effects – flipper hits, bumpers, table sounds.
  • Random – occasional extra sounds and surprises.
  • Ambience – kiosk background noise and environmental sounds.

Control settings

Rebind flippers and bump/launch controls.

Click a control button, then press the key you want to assign.

Display settings

Resolution, window mode, language and visual extras.

  • Display resolution – choose the game’s rendering resolution.
  • Window mode – switch between windowed and fullscreen (and borderless if available).
  • Game language – set the UI and text language. Currently available: English, Finnish, German, French.
  • Use old CRT tube effects for authentic gameplay – adds scanlines, curvature and glow to simulate a vintage arcade monitor.
  • Show LED Matrix during gametime – displays the animated score / message matrix on top of the playfield while playing.

Online / Steam

On the Steam version, all online activity is handled through Steam:

  • Online leaderboards for each speed league and mode.
  • Steam achievements.
  • Steam stats (playtime, scores and other numbers).
  • Steam Cloud saves for settings and local scores.

The Online tab in Settings is mostly informational in the Steam build and may reward you with a condiment-based pun.

Other settings

Extra flavour and accessibility options.

  • Random guy appears sometimes to give you life tips
Enables occasional visits from a mysterious kiosk regular who drops life advice mid-game.
  • Use hidden easter eggs that may appear if you're lucky
Allows rare hidden jokes and small surprises to show up during play.
  • Simulate arcade sounds and music
Adds extra ambient arcade noise on top of the main sound effects.
  • Hide a very subtle, well-hidden rude easter egg
Controls a tiny adults-only visual joke. This option is only available when uncensored adult mode is enabled; turn adult mode off to keep the game clean.
  • Use seasonal themes in table
Allows the playfield to switch visuals for holidays such as Halloween, Christmas, Easter, summer and Finland’s Independence Day.
  • Enable shaking effects of the game
Adds whole-screen shake on strong hits and events. Disable if you are sensitive to motion.

Game modes

All main modes are played on the same physical table but change rules, visuals and general mood. Some modes may be hidden when adult content is disabled or when Kids Mode is active.

Normal Pinball Game

Standard rules and lighting. Best starting point for new players and the main reference for scores.

Finnish Mode

Darker nights, moodier colours and extra hazards inspired by Finnish nightlife: falling bottles, slippery paths and long-winter energy.

Over-The-Top Mode

Turn everything up. More effects, more noise, extra cannons and lasers to keep your brain busy. For when normal pinball just isn’t enough.

Analog Horror Mode

CRT fuzz, distorted audio and creepy additions such as plant-like tendrils that can catch the ball. Still skill-based pinball, just dressed as a VHS horror tape.

Seasonal themes

When seasonal themes are enabled, the table can dress up for Halloween, Christmas, Easter, summer nights and Finland’s Independence Day, with matching music and small rule twists. Seasonal looks can follow the real calendar or be chosen manually depending on your build.

Kids mode & adult content

Kids mode
Kids Mode keeps the table and physics the same but swaps in friendlier art, safer texts and its own leaderboards. It is designed so children can play without running into adult jokes.

Enabling Kids Mode (Steam version)

  • On first launch, the Steam version may show a small startup dialog asking whether to run the game in Kids Mode. Parents can choose Kids Mode there and tick Remember this setting to lock it.
  • In-game, you can toggle Kids Mode from the main menu using the Kids Mode button. This can be changed at runtime.

What Kids Mode changes

  • Removes strong language and adult-themed jokes.
  • Swaps certain graphics and LED messages for kid-friendly versions.
  • Hides adult-only modes and options where necessary.
  • Uses separate kids-only leaderboards so scores aren’t mixed with adult ones.

Adult mode

With uncensored adult mode enabled, the game may include stronger jokes, references to alcohol and smoking, and a few very silly adult gags. Some modes and settings are only visible in this mode. Turn it off (or use Kids Mode) if you prefer a cleaner experience.

Tips & troubleshooting

Performance and visuals

  • Lower the display resolution if the frame rate feels choppy.
  • Disable CRT effects and screen shake for a cleaner, lighter look.
  • Use Normal game speed before trying Turbo or Ludicrous leagues.

Audio & streaming

  • If the game is too loud, start by lowering the Master slider.
  • For streams or recorded videos, turn off Use licensed music to reduce copyright risk.

Input issues

  • If a key does not register in the control menu, make sure no other software is intercepting it.
  • Reset bindings to defaults if you get stuck with an unplayable layout.

Online & saves

  • Make sure Steam is online to submit scores to leaderboards and sync stats / cloud saves.
  • If leaderboards seem out of sync, restart the game and Steam and try again.
