Overview

This page explains how Owlkeep (also using the name
Owlkeep Games) handles personal data on its websites and
online services. This includes, for example:

  • owlkeep.com and any subdomains,
  • online manuals and help pages for games,
  • privacy information pages like this one,
  • web-based scoreboards or status pages for games.

Owlkeep is based in Finland, which is part of the European
Union. That means our own processing of personal data is generally subject to
EU data-protection law (GDPR).

Short version

  • We use standard web server logs to keep sites running and secure.
  • We use Google Analytics (only with your consent) to understand traffic
    and marketing.
  • We do not sell personal data or run advertising trackers.

This page is meant to be clear and practical, not legalese. It is not formal
legal advice.

Server logs

When you visit an Owlkeep website, the web server automatically records
technical information in log files. This is standard behaviour for
almost all websites.

These logs typically contain:

  • IP address and approximate region.
  • Date and time of the request.
  • Requested URL and HTTP status code.
  • Amount of data transferred.
  • Browser and operating system (User-Agent string).
  • Referrer (which page you came from), when available.

We use this information to:

  • Keep services running reliably (debugging errors, monitoring uptime).
  • Maintain security (detecting abuse, attacks, or spam bots).
  • Get very basic statistics about traffic (for example which pages are visited
    and from which countries).

Server logs are kept for as short as reasonably possible for
these purposes, but may be stored longer if needed for security incidents,
abuse investigations, or legal reasons.

Google Analytics & cookies

To understand how people find and use Owlkeep sites, we use
Google Analytics. This helps answer questions like:

  • How many visitors does a page get?
  • Which countries do visitors come from?
  • Which pages are most useful, and which can be improved?

Consent & control

On sites where Google Analytics is used, a separate GDPR-compliant
cookie/consent banner is shown. That banner lets you:

  • Accept or reject analytics cookies.
  • Read more about which cookies are used and why.
  • Change your choice later (via a link or icon on the page).

Google Analytics is only activated after you have given consent in that
banner. If you decline analytics cookies, either no data is sent to Google or
it is limited according to the consent tool’s configuration.

What Google Analytics collects

When enabled, Google Analytics collects pseudonymous usage data, such as:

  • Which pages you visit and how long you stay.
  • Approximate location (country / region), based on IP.
  • Technical information about your device, browser and screen.
  • How you reached the site (for example from a search or link).

This data is processed by Google on our behalf and used only to improve the
sites and understand marketing. We do not try to identify individual visitors
from Analytics data.

Google Analytics is a third-party service with its own privacy policy.
Details about data handling, storage and international transfers are
described in Google’s documentation.

Online scoreboards & game-related pages

Some Owlkeep pages may display online scores or statistics for games
(for example Steam leaderboards mirrored to a web page, or simple
score listings from our servers).

In these cases, the data shown is usually limited to:

  • A display name or username (for example a Steam display name).
  • Score values, ranks and related game statistics.
  • Game mode, difficulty or speed used for that score.
  • A timestamp or date when the score was created.

When scores come from platforms like Steam, the underlying profile and
account data are handled by that platform, not by Owlkeep. We do not store
extra personal information beyond what appears on the scoreboard itself.

If you would like a scoreboard entry that relates to you to be removed,
you can contact us (see the contact section below) with enough detail
to identify the entry (for example your Steam profile and the specific
score / game mode).

Children & families

Some Owlkeep games include a dedicated Kids Mode and family-friendly
options. Manuals and help pages may also be used by children together
with parents.

Owlkeep sites are not primarily aimed at young children, and we do not
knowingly collect personal data directly from children. Online features
integrated with platforms like Steam are subject to those platforms’
own age rules and parental controls.

Your rights

Because Owlkeep is based in Finland/EU, you may have rights under GDPR
(and similar laws in other regions), including:

  • Right to access the personal data we hold about you, if any.
  • Right to ask for corrections if data is inaccurate.
  • Right to request deletion of data that is no longer needed.
  • Right to object to certain types of processing.

In practice, the only personal data we typically hold directly are:

  • Technical server logs from your visits to our sites.
  • Data used to display online scoreboards (for example a username and score).

If you want to request access to, or deletion of, this data
(for example removal of a scoreboard entry), please contact us with
enough information to identify your data. Requests are normally handled
within 2–4 weeks, depending on deployment cycles
and rolling updates.
